What it means to be “A Man”

Rudyard Kipling from John Palmer

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master,
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

From necessary to impossible

St. Francis of Assisi (circa 1182-1220)

St. Francis of Assisi (circa 1182-1220)

“Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

~ Francis of Assisi

Have you ever considered something and thought it was too difficult or even impossible to do? Then, as your in the middle of doing that very something, you realize that you can actually accomplish it. This is how the impossible is done – by putting forth physical effort along with lots of passion and unending desire. With the right combination of these forces at work, there are only two things that can stop you: yourself and death. So, before you say “that’s impossible!” – say I can “conceive it, believe it, see it, achieve it.”

“I look so beautiful and lovely”

“When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.”

~ Wayne Dyer

If you want to know the real you, then write down all the remarks you have made when making judgments about someone. Whether you say something negative or positive, silently or out loud about someone, you are essentially looking at a mirror and telling yourself what kind of person you are. If you think about it, the real reason we judge others is so we can feel better about ourselves. Knocking others down builds us up but in a destructive manner. Start looking at people as if you’re looking at yourself in the mirror, then you’ll be sure and say nice things about them.

A million realities from one fantasy

“Each of us holds a library of knowledge from higher existences. When we quiet the mind this knowledge can reveal itself to us.”

~ Unknown

“If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can transform one million realities.”

~ Maya Angelou

A million fantasies and realities lie within each one of us if we just take the time to stop and listen to what really makes us who we are as humans — our soul. There, you will find a treasure in your chest full of riches you could never buy with money or receive from anyone else. Spend more time looking for the treasure of a million realities that lie within you instead of chasing dreams that will never lead to one reality.

Get out of my way!

“Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength.”

~ Anonymous

If something is, or gets in your way as you journey through life that causes you discomfort, delays, is inconvenient, brings sadness or total loss, try not to look at these situations as an end but rather focus on how they can strengthen you to accomplish new beginnings. Every situation in life is neither bad nor good if you can view at them as merely a test that you will grow and prosper from with the proper attitude. Think happy, live happy and be happy.

Live with a purpose…today!

“A life without purpose is a languid, drifting thing; Every day we ought to review our purpose, saying to ourselves: This day let me make a sound beginning, for what we have hitherto done is naught!”

~ Thomas A. Kempis

Everyday you should be thankful for the opportunity that today brings you. If you want to have a life that is full of purpose, then memorize the above quote, repeat it to yourself everyday and make the necessary actions to fulfill its intent. Start living today with the thought that what you have done up till now is not complete. It will motivate you to excel today and yearn for many tomorrows.
