Be beloved and you’ll be loved

“It is a good thing to be rich, it is a good thing to be strong, but it is a better thing to be beloved of many friends.”

~ Euripides (480-406 BC) Greek Playwright

All the money and strength in the world can’t get you the kind of friends that give you all you need to live a happy life. Friends are to be treasured, cherished and preserved all your life so that you don’t lose them. Losing good friends is more painful than losing money or power because they are alive, unique and hard to acquire. Pets can be counted as friends. After all, they are considered to be man’s best friend. People who own pets, especially dogs, have been shown to be less stressed and require fewer visits to their physicians than non-owners. Survival rates for heart-attack victims who had a pet have been shown to be 12% longer than for those who did not have one. Pet owners have also been shown to have lower blood pressure. The reasons are most likely related to an array of psychological factors, such as the fact that owning a pet decreases loneliness and depression, encourages laughter and nurturing, and stimulates exercise. If you don’t have a pet that you can care for, then go adopt one and start living a happier lifestyle with your new friend.

Birthday boy

Today is my birthday. All I want for my special day today is to one day be included in the list below of famous Pisceans (people born under the Pisces astrological star) before I leave this world. To be in this list of famous and inspiring individuals would be both an honor and a dream come true. Ironically, many of these people are my favorites in their respective fields. Ex: Steve Jobs and Michael Dell (entrepreneurs), Albert Einstein and Joseph Pulitzer (visionaries), George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin and Elton John (musicians), Michaelangelo (artists), George Washington and Constantine the Great (leaders/statesmen), Arthur Schopenhauer and Longfellow (writers/philosophers), Tony Robbins (speakers), Ansel Adams (photographers), Shaquille O’Neal and Mario Andretti (sports), and most all the actors listed below are among my favorites. I urge you to you look up what famous people were born under your astrological star sign and see if it inspires you. Even if you don’t believe in astrology, it’s quite interesting to see what other great people throughout history share your astrological sign.

Not here, not there, not anywhere!

Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) half-length portrait, s...

Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss)

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”

“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

“Oh, the things you can find if you don’t stay behind!”

~ Dr. Seuss

One of the greatest writers of children’s books ever, Theodore Geisel Seuss was a man who devoted his life to writing and storytelling. For over 60 years, children of all ages from all over the world have been inspired by his zany, wacky, stupendous, fantabulous stories that have put smiles on the faces of so many people. As a child, I read all his classic books – “Green Eggs and Ham”, “The Cat in the Hat”, “Horton Hear a Who” and “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”. One of my all time favorite stories by Dr. Seuss is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” which even to this day brings a tear to my eye when I watch it every Christmas season. Seuss was a Pisces like myself which is why I feel such an affinity with him. His work is genius and brilliant in every way and fortunately still lives on through printed pages and video. If you haven’t shared any of Dr. Seuss’s stories with your children or seen them yourself, be sure and do yourself a favor and read all his books and watch all his animated movies. You just might rediscover the child in you that you thought was gone. Now that would be wonderfullicious!

Life is poetry in motion

“Nothing will sustain you more potently than the power to recognize in your humdrum routine, as perhaps it may be thought, the true poetry of life.”

~ Sir William Osler (1849-1919) Canadian Physician

Life is what keeps us hoping and hopping from day-to-day and sometimes it’s boring as hell, or unbelievably sad, or emotionally uneventful, or inexplicably exciting and worthwhile. In the end, we measure our live’s by what we have accomplished in the little things to the great things we’ve done. This existence we call life is a wild ride full of surprises both good and bad, so hang on tight and enjoy it the best you can as you constantly look for something to live for.

Should I, or shouldn’t I?

“None will improve your lot if you yourself do not.”

~ Bertolt Brecht, 1933

What’s holding you back from doing what you want to do in your life? It’s more than likely you! Only you can decide for yourself if you will fail or succeed in your life, so begin today by telling yourself that you can and will do what you have always wanted to do. Be the best you can be by giving yourself the chance. You can do it!

Give in to greatness

“It is the nature of man to rise to greatness if greatness is expected of him.”

~ John Steinbeck (1902-1968) American Novelist

What is expected of you? To care for your parents, husband, children, friends, job, business, or even yourself. Whatever things you are to take care of, do them well and to the best of your ability and along the way you will find greatness in some form or manner. Don’t do these things to be great but rather do them in earnest and find greatness from them along the way.

What is controlling you?

“He who reigns within himself and rules his passions, desires, and fears is more than a king.”

~ John Milton (1608-1674) English Poet

In life, we try to control many aspects of it that we actually cannot control. You should only focus on the things you can control, i.e., your passions, desires and fears. If you can learn to conquer this feat, then you will gain personal power, thusly achieving most anything that is within your ability.
