Some of my favorite songs with lyrics.

You’ve got a friend

JT (album)

James Taylor

“People should watch out for three things: avoid a major addiction, don’t get so deeply into debt that it controls your life, and don’t start a family before you’re ready to settle down. ”

~ James Taylor

Wise words from someone who has seen a lot in his life – stardom, drug addiction, a famous marriage and divorce, lost millions of dollars, etc. JT has always been one of my favorite singer/songwriters. I saw him in concert in 2003 at the Hollywood Bowl and he sounded great as he always does. I suppose because James is a Pisces like myself, I feel an affinity to him. One of my favorite songs he sings is “You’ve Got A Friend” (lyrics below) that has surely brought encouragement to millions of people who needed that song when they were friendless. Try to be better friends to the ones you have and friendlier to those who could be friends.

“You’ve Got A Friend” by Carol King
When you’re down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
and you know whereever I am
I’ll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I’ll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You’ve got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
and soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I’ll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They’ll hurt you and desert you.
Well they’ll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don’t you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I’ll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don’t you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you’ve got to do is call.
Lord, I’ll be there, yes I will.
You’ve got a friend.
You’ve got a friend.
Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend.
Ain’t it good to know you’ve got a friend.
You’ve got a friend.

What is Love?

This song was very popular when I was 24 years old. It’s not such a special song lyrically but the melody and beat is real nice. After reading the lyrics again today, I realize that in love, nothing changes. Life changes all the time but love is a constant. If you can understand this clearly, then you will be happier in love.

What Is Love?
Sung by Howard Jones
I love you whether or not you love me
I love you even if you think that I don’t.
Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you but I don’t mind.
Why should I mind? Why should I mind?
What is love anyway?
Does anybody love anybody anyway?
What is love anyway?
Does anybody love anybody anyway?
Can anybody love anyone so much that they will never fear

Never worry
never be sad?
The answer is they cannot love this much
nobody can.
This is why I don’t mind you doubting.

What is love anyway? . . .
And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be
The door always must be left unlocked.
To love when circumstance may lead someone away from you
And not to spend the time just doubting.
What is love anyway? . . .
What is love anyway? . . .
What is love anyway? . . .

Stars

One of the most beautiful songs ever written about a man who’s lovesick and heart broken over a woman he loved so much. The singer/songwriter, Dan Fogelberg was one of my favorite musicians. He died early in his life at age 56 from prostrate cancer. He was a good man and a gifted man for music. I’m so glad he left his beautiful gift of music for the world to enjoy.

“Stars”
Stood out in the rain
Let it soak me down
Before I called you…I called you.
Didn’t see me there
Hidden by the rain
Beneath your window…But I saw you.

Putting on your face before the
Mirror on the wall
Dreaming that the looking glass
was me…
Catching your fondest gazes
Living through your fickle phases
I love you.

And it’s getting easier each day
To weep about you
Harder every night to sleep without you
How many years must I be driven
By this dream
Of love with you?

Spend my dimes on phones
Trying just to talk but
You don’t answer…you let it ring.

Spend my nights alone
Catching falling stars to
Give to you, love,
They’re just for you.

For stars fall every time a
lover has to face the truth
And far too many stars have
fell on me.
And as they trail the skies
And burn their paths upon my eyes
I cry.

Love is a happy song

“Love like Music disrupts Silence with the delight of its harmony.”

- Unknown

If love is like music – full of happiness, hope and harmony – then when you are in real love, it should be like sweet music to your ears.

Wedding Party. American Style!

Watch the video clip below and see how Americans act at wedding parties. You can say a lot things about Americans but one thing for sure, they know how to have fun!

Long live MJ – he was the greatest Pop singer of all time.  He was 6 months older than me, so I was lucky enough to grow up with him as he progressed from a little boy singing like man to a super star to a lonely “freak.”

I miss America! So many great memories there in my life. Now I am creating more great memories here in China.

Where is my “Golden Lady”?

One of my favorite songs sung by one of the greatest singer/songwriters who ever lived. I hope one day to find my Golden Lady and share heaven on earth with her.

“Golden Lady”
By Stevie Wonder

Looking in your eyes
Kind of heaven eyes
Closing both my eyes
Waiting for surprise
To see the heaven in your eyes is not so far
Cause I’m not afraid to try and go it
To know the love and the beauty never known before
I’ll leave it up to you to show it

And golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Take me right away

Looking at your hands
Hands can understand
Waiting for the chance
Just to hold your hand
A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that’s blooming
And it’s so clear to me that you’re a dream come true
There’s no way that I’ll be losing

And golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Take me right away

A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that’s blooming
And it’s so clear to me that you’re my dream come true
There is no way that I’ll be losing

Golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there

Do you have a happy song in your heart?

“Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.”

~ E.Y. Harburg

Wherever  I am in life, I have music playing. At home music is on all day and when I’m outside, I have my iPod playing. Music keeps me happy, hoping and sane in this crazy world. If you can keep a happy song in your mind, you will have a happy heart.

Soul Music

“Take time to laugh – it is the music of the soul.”

~ From an old English prayer

Laughter is the best music and medicine in the world.

“Love Song”

This is one of my favorite songs sung by one of my favorite artists.

Love Song
written by: Leslie Duncan
Vocals: Elton John and Lesley Duncan
Acoustic guitar and backing vocals: Lesley Duncan
The words I have to say
May well be simple but they’re true
Until you give your love
There’s nothing more that we can do

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen

You say it’s very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But there’s no other way
And now it’s really up to you

Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes really seen…
